WordPress 2.5 Use Category ID

A major turn off in WordPress 2.5 is that the category ID has been removed. WordPress smarty pants thought the average Joe didn’t use or need category id’s.
Many really hot free themes need to use the category ID to display the posts lists correctly on the front page, like Mimbo, a news theme.
Well silly me tried the Mimbo theme and I was trying every digit from 1–20 in the categorie’s ID and noting evey time I found one! I thought there has got to be a much better way of finding categories. There is indeed a much faster and smarter way of doing this. I actually noticed accidentally.
When I am logged in to my admin’s dashboard I click on “Manage” tab and then on the “categories” sub tab.
Click on the category you want to obtain the ID for. Then look in your address bar. The URL ends with…”ID=13” or what ever your category id is! How stupid is that? I could have saved an hour. Then I wondered why is this not written anywhere?
I knew the categories id couldn’t have been removed. If WordPress uses them than I should to, logically. They are just gone from the simple user’s interface. Hope that can be helpful, it sure was for me. I would like to know if I am a nut for having it under my eyes all this time or if most people had to search for them also?
