I wrote a post earlier today, “Raise Your Techorati Authority and Get Backlinks” It lead to interesting questions from Roshill and Hawksdomain. I’m posting this even if it’s not new. There is still some confusion when it comes to Technorati Authority.
The following are excerpts from Technorati
It is important to note that we measure the number of blogs, rather than the number of links. So, if a blog links to your blog many times, it still only count as +1 toward your authority. Of course, new links mean the +1 will last another 180 days.
Technorati Rank is calculated based on how far you are from the top. The blog with the highest Technorati Authority is the #1 ranked blog. The smaller your Technorati Rank, the closer you are to the top.
Since at the lower end of the scale many blogs will have the same Technorati Authority, they will share the same Technorati Rank.
The Technorati Top 100 shows the most popular 100 blogs based on Technorati Authority. The #1 ranked blog is the blog with the most other distinct blogs linking to it in the last 6 months. If your blog’s rank is, say 305,316, this indicates that there are 305,315 blog ranks separating your blog from the #1 position.
The best way to increase your Technorati Authority is to write things that are interesting to other bloggers so they’ll link to you. Linking to source material when you blog is also a great way to engage in conversation and help others find what you find interesting.
Finally, if you want to let your readers see your Technorati Authority on your blog, install the Technorati Authority widget. It’s a little bit down the page so scroll down to find out how to get it.
Pagerank
Devised by Google, it measures not only how many links point to a website, but the “quality” of the sites providing the links. This index that values Web pages on a scale of 0 to 10 also affects search rankings.

Thank you so much, Asuka - your explanation is so clear, I almost feel silly that I didn’t get it the first time! :)

Hey,
I am having problem making my disclosure can you help me out . When i am on the 5th step the button finish doesn’t work can you check it out for me please!
Hey Asuka,
Well i am going to disclose my secret ! Well actually i didn’t sign up today at all on any of the sites i mention on my site. But there was someelse which mostly pinay bloggers come up with am boy do they get traffic ! I am just trying to associate with them for the past few weeks going to their blogs and commenting and i did make really good friends! Well on one such blog i came by was murisca’s blog i hope i spelled it right . They make link batches and try to forward them to everyone i caught up in one of those batches it was called THE GEINIE’s LAMP . Its the soloution to your backlinks hehe… search my blog i am sure you will find that post and then goto to the 1st link on the list No.1 … Goto her site and comment her up to add you up! And just guess what happens need i say more! But yeah i have my own hard earned back links in those too… that included non-stop sign ups to new sites ! Well its a combined work of both but yes this was way easier b/w i would like to send you a SEO book if you want it its an ebook!. I learned a lot from it . I will start optimising from day after. I have to complete my sponsored reviews before 22nd and have only 3 days to go!
Thanks,
Sorry my language there got jumbled the page refreshed and i pasted a few lines in b/w !
Hey guys, I read the post through and enjoyed its content. I wil however like to ask you all a question. Which ranking system do you respect most and why? I am stuck between Technorati, Google and Alexa.
Thanks
I like Technorati but I prefer to follow Google. In my Opinion, Alexa sucks because it is based on visitors who use the Alexa toolbar…That’s not cool.
Another thing I like is Izea rank checker because it is based on your visitors and real info. http://izearanks.com/
Looks like finally Google improver algorithm to evaluate content of the site in addition to the backlinks. Sites with very little content are loosing ranking points at least during last two PR updates.
Now we are getting back to the basics: content is a King and backlink as a queen (at best)…
I lost pagerank damb it! I had a three last week!!! Apparently I had to many link exchanges. That an the fack my blog had review me badges all over the place….I WANT MY PAGERANK BACK! My other site which is lame had no pagerank it went up to a two!
Pixel shop has twice as many backlinks as site number 2…I don’t get it.
Technorati Authority is also useful when you are joining text link ads for it consider the TechnoAuth to be a decent publisher.
